So I got sick about a month ago..got the runny nose, coughing, all that..a few days later I got better, but the cough has been with me ever since. Cough drops help the problem temporarily, as does drinking an insane amount of water, but it just comes back. What can I do about it?

not a doctor so I'm not sure how this helps, I find sleeping with a humidifier and hot soup works for a dry cough

Do you have High Blood Pressure by chance? Some Hypertension medications can give you a dry cough. Just a thought.

Have you been to a doc? I suffer from the same problem, so I went last week. The first thing out of his mouth was respiratory infection, and he put me on antibiotics. They helped, as I was coughing about every 5-10 minutes of so, and now it's about every 30 minutes, but I still have a cough. I also had a chest x-ray, and a blood test which turned up nothing. His next move is to send me tp a pulmonary specialist, which I've been putting off. I want to try the humidifier thing first to see if it's the dry air.

make sure you find a dog with the same cough and take it along with you to the vet and then have the vet prescribe something for the dog and you take it <sorry for the Seinfeld joke>

Make sure it's not post-nasal drip going on. Usually colds will leave your nose runny for a long time. Small amounts drip down your throat and give that coughing sensation without bringing anything up. Post nasal drip isn't really noticeable if it's a mild case. Go see a doctor to get some rx for it.

That happened to me about three years ago - but for me it was a mucous-y cough. My dad (doctor) prescribed an antibiotic for me after I'd had the cough for about a month, and it cleared right up.
