Dry Cleaning Question - Shirts Laundered?

I have a few shirts that apparently are ok to put in the laundry at home but say "For best results, dry clean." I brought them to the dry cleaner today and even though I said I wanted them dry cleaned, the guy at the cleaners kept inquiring if I wanted them laundered.

How much better is their laundry service than what I could probably do at home (on gentle cycle with good detergent)? I opted for the dry clean this time, as I really don't want the shirt to fade, but I'm wondering if I should've went with their laundry service and saved myself a few dollars in the process.

they probably do the laundry ones themselves and send out the dry clean ones, so they make more $ off laundry

something like that, so just do whichever you like and don't worry about their advice

It's all about the pressing. Unless you have a shirt press at home, they will never look as good.

I have my shirts laundered and pressed, I can't tell the difference, it's cheaper and my shirts don't seem to be falling apart yet. Works for me!

EDIT: I abhor starched shirts...the one difference is they *do* wrinkle quicker than a starched shirt, but I don't care, it would take an act of god to force me to wear a starched shirt.

But wouldn't I get that with both dry cleaning and shirt laundering services anyways?

I want to know which to choose next time I bring my shirts to the dry cleaner.

you dry clean certain fabrics (eg. silk)

regular shirts made with cotton and cotton blend just get laundered.

laundered shirts are pressed still damp, and look much better than dried/pressed shirts. we charge $2.25 for a laundered shirt (cotton, or poly/cotton) and $4 for a drycleaned shirt (usually all poly, rayon, or silk, or a blend of the three)

usually thats fine. again, laundered shirts are finished differently and the pressing is much better that way.
