Dry cleaners question

I've never brought my dress shirts to a dry cleaners and I have a few questions:

Do they remove coller and cuff stains?
Do they press the shirts?

You need to ask if they dry clean or if they launder. It's two different things. They should have no problem removing stains, let them know when they tag the item.

In terms of removing filth, does laundering work better than dry-cleaning? And does dry-cleaning involve toxic chemicals?

coming from someone whose family is in the dry cleaning business: it really depends. if the stain is really old and has been through multiple cleanings, it might not come out so easily. we used to have people bring in shirts that were really old and expected that we work some sort of miracle for $0.99 a shirt. you can always ask them if they scrub the collars (of course they might lie, since you'll never really know)

if it's just a few shirts and you don't mind the work, you can always make a paste w/ your detergent a a tiny bit of water and scrub the collars yourself. then take them to a cleaners to get them cleaned, pressed, and starched. you can probably find a place that's right around a buck a shirt and that's worth it just to get them pressed, imo. it might be $2.50 if they press the shirts by hand. most 99 cent shirt places will have a machine that can press shirts very quickly, thus the cheap price.

The only cleaners I have around here is Golds. Some of the collar stains are old, but I think I'll bring it two of my shirts and see how to come out. Thanks for the advice.

I pay $2 per shirt and its a 65 year old Chinese lady that launders, dries, and then presses by hand. She does an amazing job. She doesn't accept new customers though... she used to do them during the same day, most times now it lags to a 2nd day. Its ok though because she really makes my shirts look brand new.

Jeez, dry cleaning is expensive here. It tends to run $5+ per shirt.

that's most likely a dry cleaned shirt and pressed by hand. shirts like polo shirts. those can run from $2 to $5 per.

the laundry shirts are usually washed w/ detergent and water, most times pressed on an automated machine. those are usually the 99 cent to 1.50 shirts.
