OK, I live next to this town - most of us are not to happy with the T-shirts they printed for their local pub crawl. The front is as seen in this photo and article. The back has a depiction of oscar the grouch saying "I got trashed at the Bay City pub crawl"...

How is this different from the "Evil Bert" series?

Well 2 things here....

1. they may do jail time or at least get a big fine from the goverment.
"Federal laws do not allow caricatures or cartoon characters that would appeal to younger people to be used for the promotion of alcohol or cigarettes. "

2. They will probable be sued to hell and back again from the Sesame Workshop. You just can't use a trademark item and NOT pay for it.

These idiots F-Uped big time.

Yeah it's pretty stupid of them to think they can just use the drawings....and yeah it ain't the best depiction of bert, ernie & co. but surely there are much worse things to worry about.

"We felt that if some people are offended by it we'd rather just stop it," said John Gillman of ATS Printing, which designed and produced the shirts. "It's something that we never thought would be controversial."

Aren't there more important things to worry about than some idiot using an openly gay children's show couple on a t-shirt?

Should have used the Sex Puppets instead...

in regard to #2, parody is constitutionally protected under freedom of speech. as long as its obvious its a parody, you can use a trademark item and not pay for it. in regard to #1, we're talking about younger people who are 3 to 5 years old here. i really doubt the government is going to care about the tees.

i'd buy it, to add to my "harry pothead and the sorcerer's stoned" tee.

These people are having a huge, well-publicized event which involves drinking mass quantities of booze and staggering (or worse, driving) from one bar to the next and they are concerned that "They don't want that kind of a community message."

Figure THAT one out!

I think the shirt is a hoot.

Exactly. They allow the pub crawl, but a t-shirt with a drunk Oscar the Grouch on it just goes waaaaay too far.

They should have used Cartman and the Chef on the front. On the back, they could have Kenny dying on the floor that says "OMG, U GAVE HIM ALCOHOL, OMG U KILLED KENNY!!"

Nope, those are characters from South Park... might have been more appropriate since South Park condones cursing and drug consumption

"Any caring adult that I have spoken to that has seen this has just been appalled," said Goldie Wood, project director for the Bay County Neighborhood Resource Center. "They don't want that kind of a community message. And they don't want their children to see it."

OK. Fine. Next year, we'll print up the t-shirts with a cartoon of you on the front, Ms Goldie. And we'll include the slogan, "We got Wood at the pub crawl!"
:p
