Drunk guy drove through our back yard

This is the 2nd time a drunk guy has driven through my parents' fence. This time he also managed to hit somebody else a block away first (sending them to the hospital ) before plowing through our fence, through our garden and almost into the lawn. Luckily he got stuck because he was flooring it trying to get away. Luckily my dogs weren't in the yard at the time.

UPDATE 2/3: Turns out this guy actually lived fairly close to us. Within walking distance at least. He got charged with a whole mess of stuff so he won't be avoiding jail time. From what I hear so far they don't think he has insurance. Fan-fucking-tastic

Cops were called and all that. Not sure exactly what all happened as I wasn't there, I'm at school. Twice in 5 years is a little more regular than I'd like, but still rare.

put some big ass rocks on either side of the fence. you can make them look quite nice actually, and they will stop people from getting into the yard, and total cars

We've thought about that, but quickly threw that idea away once we realized how expensive those big ass rocks would be. Also, we could only put them on OUR side since the outside is owned by the state. So we'd still deal with the broken fences. It'd be nice to stop them there, but not cost effective enough.

Jam some rebars into your yard, angled about 30 degrees to the horizontal so that they stick through the fence. Reinforce with baling wire. Works better if you pour concrete around the rebar.

You can find cinderblocks for cheap. Rebar and concrete mix, too. It would take you a while, but you can make a good barrier. Paint it up or put wood slats on either side to make it look like a conventional fence. If all else fails, try a moat.

..get some big arse ornamental granite boulders for around and about. Had the same prob.due to morons driving up on the sidewalk to make u-turns. My bolder was there less then a week and smoebody hit it.

My parents used to live at the curve of a road, down the street from a cluster of a few bars - if you kept driving straight you'd drive straight into the house.

It wasn't long before a drunk crashed into the house (no major damage), and the property owner and my dad built some innocent looking planter boxes in the front lawn. They used railroad ties for the wood, 4 or 5 high, with a number of them sunk vertically into the ground (probably 60-70% buried). The whole things were a couple of feet thick filled with dirt as well. A damn semi wouldn't have been able to get to the house through those.

Looks like a sharp curve. Have you asked the ciy to put up a guardrail? See if can plant trees on the outside of the fence. I really wouldn't suggest putting random large objects on either side of the fence unless your homeowners insurance is pretty good.
