In the life in the ghetto thread Scarpozzi mentioned he was drinking ONE cold beer while driving. Dozens of people showed up to tell him he is a fool for breaking the law and endangering others.

Using that same thought process what are people thought with driving over the speed limit? You are still breaking the law and endangering others.

Perhaps cars should have transpoders in them that would limit thier speed to the road they are on? You pass a 55mph (88kph) speed limit sign and you cars drivetrain automatically limits you to 55mph. And keep you wreckless inconsiderate bastards to the much safer speed of 55mph.

I am pure as the driven snow. I don't speed, I buckle my seat belt if I'm changing parking spots, and I come to a complete stop for 5 seconds at every stop sign.

A safer speed of 55mph? Interstate speeds here are 65....try going 55 safely. More than likely, you are the wreckless inconsiderate bastard slowing everyone down in the fast lane.

While I agree that there really is no significant risk when drinking a beer while driving (2 in this case since it was a 24 oz can), it really is quite irresponsible and unnecessary and should be punished as if you were driving drunk.

There simply is no reason for it and I would never do it, nor allow an open beverage in my vehicle even if that person wasn't driving.

And I typically do the speed limit and I'm honest on my taxes.

Beer has a different effect on different people...it's all about tolerance and metabolism.

The BAC level to watch out for here is .08. On an empty stomach, the average time to completely metabolize a 12 ounce beer is 1 hour. If you're eating, you may metabolize it faster.

I'm curious as to what the average BAC is just after consuming said beer, and how the level changes over the period of one hour.

It doesn't matter if 1 beer has any effect on you, it's against the law just like wrecklessly speeding at 57mph in a 55mph zone. Or perhaps you don't come to a complete stop at a intersection is just as dangerous.

no it's not. If you have someone that weight 135lbs drinking a can of beer while driving, he/she will be impaired. Speeding 5mph over doesn't make you lose control, drinking and driving does.

Where do you get that idea from that you will be impaired while drinking a beer. You won't be impaired until the alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream... probably AFTER the beer is gone.

I suggest you go to this site...
here

Then, you try to find a site that will support your claim that 1 beer will leave a person impaired.

What if you needed to go faster in an emergency? Like the guy who posted the other day about outrunning a bunch of stalkers on a road where people are getting killed, was it LA?

Ok but you still need to pay a speeding ticket

No.

Unless 100% of traffic flow was controlled by a central network I would never be for it.

Bad idea, it is sometimes necessary to speed up to avoid a collision and this would only make the roads more dangerous. On top of that you could never effectively pass slower vehicles because you'd be limited to the speed limit.

I can see this happening very very very very far in the future, but not anytime soon.
