Well for users jail time is not a deterrent, because usage laws are more lenient. For drug traffickers it sure as hell is. And that's good.

No, it's not a deterrent at all. People willing to bring in drugs can make BIG money, and there is no shortage of them. You don't really think that literal metric tons of drugs make it into the US because they are scared of jail time do you?

Not a deterrent *at all* you say? Do you understand that for trafficking laws to not be a deterrent "at all" would imply they affect no people and don't slow down drug traffickers in the slightest? Is that your position?

Please. If that were really true, then pot and crack dealers wouldn't give a Damn about law enforcement, because there's no deterrent "at all." Yeah right dude.

Do you have any facts that show the "big money" which these mules are making to bring in drugs to the United States, or did you just pull that out of your ass too? I'm not sure what illusions you are operating under, but from everything I've read in the media, drug mules are some of the poorest, most vulnerable people in the population. That's precisely the reason *why* drug cartels can take advantage of them.
