Dave I thought you live on monkey island? I remember that post where your windows got broken and it said you live on monkey island.

Wow, that's crazy. They should make those things out of concrete!

In the early 2000s, it looked like Elgin was making a comeback, home prices were going up, factories seemed to be running full steam, etc.... I actually considered moving to there at one time and dealing with a worse commute simply because I could get more house for my money... I'm glad I didn't. My house value has crashed, but Wauconda is still "nice" to me.

What's really depressing is the thought that the guy at the scrapyard was like "huh, historical markers, eh? Fine, I'll take 'em."

Probably bought them cheap since they were clearly stolen. Guess it all looks the same once it's been melted down...

I think my mom was born there, IIRC.

A scene like that outside my house wouldn't surprise me. There was a crazy scene around a year ago. I hear this yelling and I open my window and hear this guy screaming, just going bananas. He had been driving down the street and a woman was in the car with him, have no idea what their relationship was but they got to fighting and it got completely out of control. The guy was going nuts, he was completely outraged and beside himself, yelling really loud, obviously he'd gotten out of the car. It went on and on for 10-15 minutes at least. Cops came and I went out on my porch and they and the guy were right on the sidewalk in front of my house. A woman cop was talking to this guy and he was sitting on the sidewalk and she was asking him if they'd been drinking and he said yes. A couple of other cops were standing there. I went back in the house.
