I never whined to him or gave him any sort of attitude. I was calm and politely asked him about the rates, and he blew everything up and started to bitch me out saying that i woke him from bed and that he could have charged me more. He could have choosen any other job in the world... he happened to be a tow driver ( and a crappy one at that).. it's not my problem and I shouldn't have to hear about it. It was only 9:30 at night which didnt seem that insane of a time for someone to come out. Hes not the only tow driver in town and i would have gladly choose someone else if i had the chance. It's fine though because everything will be taken care of tomorrow.

I understand about the rates and your point. At this point I am not that worried about the money... its more about the customer service of this company. I work in retail and will soon hopefully become a lead (manager). I know what customer service is and this was definlty not anything close to it.
I do wish you luck in your career. In retail, there's nothing but a bunch of whining customers on a constant basis. There's no way you'll be able to keep your attitude positive without burning yourself out. I know - my wife worked in retail for well over 10 years. Finally, she switch careers and is doing something that she really enjoys - teaching.

Now, lets get this thread back on topic. Back to the towing discussion. 😉

Most people in the towing profession that I've dealt with have always put customer service in second place. Their first priority has been to go and do the job that they're supposed to do - get a vehicle out of a ditch or pulled onto a flatbed truck if the vehicle has been in an accident. People who work in these positions are not know for their excellent customer service. Heck, most of them are pretty rough around the edges. This guy has plenty of job security - I don't see too many people with CDL licenses and tow-truck qualifications lining up to take his job away from him.

Well said. I am very used to the whiny customers and have been dealing with them for a couple of years now. I am just a 18 year old kid, but Staples is considering basically having me take over the whole dept. I think I can handle it, because most of the time I can maintain a postive attutude about almost anything.. its just the I am.

After discussing towing with co-workers at Staples all day today I am quite sick of the whole subject to be honest 🙂 If i never see another tow-truck for 10 more years I will be very happy.

thanks for the support

Doesnt the auto club haul you out for free if you call them?

Well, it worked for me on my incident with the dirt shoulder.

my dad called them today and talked to the owner... the owner was really pissed at the driver and told him he would call my dad back at work. The guy calls back and completely denies everything to save his job. He basically called me a liar. My dad will call back tomorrow and talk to the other owner and we will see what happens...

We both run to the car which is a good 200 feet away, and at this point we are both flipping out thinking that is car is about to be totaled. Funny thing is that the car we just some other lady with about the same car he had.
