Drove a Genesis Coupe...

Last Friday I went to the local dealer and got myself a test drive in a new '12 2.0T A/T and the '13 2.0T A/T. (They had an R-Spec manual that I declined to drive, in hind sight my worst decision ever.)

Got to say, I wasn't totally impressed by the '12. Interior wasn't great, power wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be, but the ride and feel was good. Took the '13 out and man it was a different animal, could tell there was more speed, gearbox was much smoother, and the interior was a dream.

Sadly, shortly after doing all this test driving I came home and really thought about what I did. I told the dealer, who was really nice, that I would love to know what a manual variant would cost off the lot, optioned how I wanted, and he's getting back to me on it.

The sad part is I don't want to buy it new. I keep getting excited about it and then realize that I don't want to pay the mark up on a new car. 🙁

Sigh.

/pointless.

I still need to get my hands on one of these to try out. But i dont think they cracked the ecu just yet to up the boost.

I needs a Turbo dd and I don't want gti

'12 2.0T: 210hp
'12 3.8V6: 306hp

'13 2.0T: 274hp
'13 3.8V6: 345hp

just a minor difference between the 2012 model year and 2013 model year in terms of performance 😉

as a 2010 GC owner (2.0T R-Spec) - an ECU flash makes a world of difference on the 210hp 2.0T.

have they fully cracked ECU tuning yet? I know when i looked about 6 months back they are still working on it. I'm talking about something on the same level as the VW 2.0T/1.8T or the subaru's 2.0T/ 2.5T

(1) : WRX
(2) : Speed3
(3) : Used *35i

😀 not really in any particular order, all great cars. The WRX is probably the best balance of performance and reliability. Speed3 is nice but FF leaves me cold, 135i/335i are fantastic but BMW maintenance costs and the HPFP issues make that a car you must be prepared to afford the ownership costs as well as the purchase costs.

I have a 2010 3.8 Track. Love the car. For me its the perfect balance of 350z and G35.

That said, I took one of the 2013 2.0Ts out when I was in for maintenance. Amazing what they did with the Sonata's turbo and a different tune. I wish they still had the 2.0t Track. I'd probably get one

I like the look of the Sonata, Elantra, Veloster (esp the turbo) and the Azera. I cannot stand the look of the Genesis Coupe. I wish it looked more masculine, because the specs are great.

Like what? Better throttle response?

significantly increased torque and horsepower.

on the stock tune, things kinda fall flat after 4000rpm

with the ECU tune, it pulls much harder until redline (19psi vs 14psi peak, 15psi vs. 10psi sustained, IIRC)

maybe ill see if they will let me take out a '13, i need to take mine ('10 3.8) in for some maintenance this month. prob not a good idea though.. really need to be shopping for a dad-car instead of dad-trying-to-relive-bachelorhood car

srs? only the genesis models don't look like gargoyles, and hyundai is breaking that with the '13 models.

/me wonders if '12 front clip would fit on the '13 turbo

genesis 5.0 R-spec? 😀

I own an '11 3.8 track and it's a pretty sporty ride with awesome looks. Not sure why they butchered the front end on the '13s, but the bump in HP on the turbo and v6 are pretty nice.

As a matter of fact I am hearing some third party solutions are in the works to fix that front bumper.

Or you could always get a Black or White car as it tends to blend in better.

As for the tranny, my sources are telling me the manual tranny is still the same with some improvements. But they are still prone to rev hang, grind, and notchy performance over time. A complete redesign is in the works.

Up in here in Canada these cars are pretty hard to find now. Dealers are having a hard time getting cars and used 2.0Ts just sit on the lots but the used 3.8s get snapped up pretty quick.

On paper these cars are great but in comparison they tend to fall flat without some decent mods.
