Dropping in an LS1? How about the MF408S?

Dropping into what??? And I also prefer and engine that makes more torque than hp.

Yeah, that engine is set up for quite a bit of high end power but the torque peak isn't out of this world and it occurs at a relatively high RPM. That engine would probably work great for a car that you're taking to the track but for a car you'll be using on the street most people prefer something with a decent amount of low end torque so you don't have to rev the snot out of it every time you want to take off quickly from a stop light.

Buncha haters.

I think it's pretty cool. The op isn't saying he's about to put it in his miata or anything.

But what a blast it'd be :p

And LS1 weighs about 195KG. But, with the cost of that Mugen engine you could probably buy a few LS1's. lol

Or just skip all that and buy an LS7 Crate engine(505HP) and call it a day. Around $14-$15K.

I bet that thing sounds like pure sex.

Any of you ragging on this engine are full of shit. A V8 with almost 600HP and 400ftlbs of torque and a 10,000RPM redline would put a smile on anyone's face. Something like that would be unbelievably fun to drive.

I agree. But, definitely an engine most, if not all of us will ever get to use. lol

I was just pointing out that comparing it to an LS1 is kinda pointless.

Sure it'd be fun, but unlike the other crate motors people are pointing out, this one isn't streetable.

Once it's rolling, anyway. Race motors like that have very little rotating mass and are hard to get the car moving.

You see lots of guys that drive for a living stalling their cars trying to get out of the pits.

Wouldn't stop me (from jumping at a chance to drive a car with that motor), though.

Sure it is.

I would drive it. On the street. In a 1971 240Z. And you wouldn't be able to take the smile off my face.

Is the S2000 not streetable? Is it hard to get moving?

You guys are silly. This engine is probably still making more torque at idle than a random 4 cylinder is at 2500RPM.

You know it's an ALMS engine right? So that thing is probably about as streetable as a NASCAR engine. :)

The reason why the S2k can move is cus they have the gearing super short to make up for the lack of torque. I'd rather not have an engine that has to have the transmission make up for it.

It's torque peak is at 7500 RPM. That's not anything close to what you'd want on the street. It's meant to be run up in stratospheric RPMS and would most likely be an absolute dog down in the RPM range that you would normally drive at compared to a streetable engine.

It's built as a race engine so it's whole design is set up to operate near the upper limit of its RPM range. Unless you're on a track that's not going to happen and the engine will be less impressive than something set up to provide decent power over a wide power band.
