So I've recently moved into a dorm at my college and I've set up my desktop just fine. I run Vista Home Premium x64 Bit and have a standard ethernet cable connection to the socket in my wall. The campus provides us with a free 1gbs internet connection and wifi but I am having trouble staying online. My computer can find the network, connect to the internet, and run just fine... for about 15minutes at a time.
After that my IPv4 connectivity turns to "limited" and when i diagnose the problem it says that I "Cannot Communicate with the Primary DNS Server" about half the time, and the other half it says "Your modem or router is unavailable" although sometimes I also get "There might be a problem with the network adapter 'Local Area Connection.'"
In any case I found that by telling my computer to reset the connection I can get a quick fix and temporary get my connection back, until it drops again.
I've done a google search about the primary DNS server and turned off TCP scaling but my problem persists. I've called my campus IT and they sent a guy out, but honestly he just as confused as I was, he told me to call a different branch of the IT service but I've yet to hear back from them.
Any ideas?
