Dropped my Galaxy S3 - Repair Options

I recently dropped my Verizon Galaxy s3 a very short distance, but as it turns out, it dropped face down, onto a corner. The worst drop possible. The screen has a decent crack in it now.

What are my options for repair. It seems that its either call Samsung or replace it myself for 250,

Wondering if anyone has any experience with replacing their glass on their S3.

Q.Q
Cheapest option is to do nothing about it
Best way is to get Samsung repair it
IMHO worst way is fixing it yourself since you may FUBAR it

These phones are pretty easy to take apart but you might have a hard time finding replacement parts at this early stage.

Wasn't there a thread earlier about the Samsung S3 having a undestructable screen?

If you're talking about Gorilla Glass, it's not indestructible, it's just very hard to scratch. No screen is unbreakable.

This is a good example of an advantage the iphone has.... screens are plentiful and cheap.

I busted the screen on my sgs2, cost me $230 from irevampelectronics.com in Chicago. I couldn't even find the screen if I wanted to do the work myself. I could have had the iphone 4 screen done locally for $80.

If the newest MacBooks are any indication of the direction that Apple is going in manufacturing new devices that may no longer hold true. It's possible that the new iPhone will still have easy & cheap to replace screens but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it became impossible to disassemble and even if you did the screen would be prohibitively expensive to replace.

No insurance?

Nah. I had a case in the mail, so I didn't bother...

Use it for a while until the parts are more readily available and cheaper.

I'm thinking about going this route. The crack is annoying as fuck, but it doesn't actually prevent me from doing anything. The screen is still 100% readable.

They seem to be easy enough to find for about 250 or so dollars.

Its extremely resistant to scratches. However, Glass to edge is a terrible design choice because in my case, because it fell face down on a corner, the glass takes the full brunt of the impact and breaks.

I'm also thinking about just walking into a Verizon store and seeing what options they could give me

But fixing it correctly is hard. Sometimes the screens are cheap ones that aren't the best as well as not having them put it in right.
