Dropped my cpu 10c

cheers guys, was easyer than i thought it would , the 76mm hole cutter went through
the aluminium like a hot knife through butter lol. the led fan was only about £2 from ebuyer.com
and isnt that loud..

nice job, good choice of grill aswell - looks tight enough to keep out fingers yet not restrict airflow and quite nice pattern too 🙂 nice how the edging covers the inevitable roughness from the cutting, makes it look like the case was made that way. 🙂

Usually the side pulls fresh air in and the top exhausts hot air out.

could you post pictures of the cutter / other tools. if this is a circular hole saw, did you use a regular handheld drill or a drill press?

Hi m8 my mums friend has his own metal fabrication business so i took my
panel round and cut it using a pilar drill.

It is a circular saw see post above that links the best picy i could get sorry

Thanks for the information. This has been added to my list of things to do to my computer. When I bought my case I ordered one with solids sides. The company sent me one with a window thinking I'd like it better. I made them send me the original side so I have two now. I've actually been using the windowed side because it has two holes for fans and the solid one has none. It sure won't hurt for me to try doing this with my solid panel and see how it compares. I don't think I'll be able to get quite as good of a temp change because my chip is already at 41-45C temps and my case is 24-27C, but I'd love to get rid of the window on my computer and keep the same cooling or better.

The only problem for me is that I'll be cutting through steel and not aluminum. I see that svc has this grill for only $1.99. I may have to pick one up.
 
I just went out and bought the 76mm bit and plan on working on this this weekend. I still have to wait for the grills to come in, but I'll post pics and temp changes once I'm done.
 
yeah fans blowing in the case , what i did was make a tube with some paper and attached
it to the cpu fan so that it acts as a funnel so all the air coming in from the fan goes right to the cpu fan.

well, i did my mod. Here's a picture of how it turned out: link (this is a large image ~1meg). I have one fan blowing on the processor and one on the video card (geforce4 ti4200). Both fans (as well as all fans in my system, including the PS) are panaflo L1As. I didn't have much of a change in temp since I previously had the two fans on my system. Previously I had a windowed side panel with the fans at the bottom of the case. This just allow me to use my solid panel instead. Cutting through steel was somewhat difficult, but a very powerful drill and a little patience was all I needed. My case is a mess (my son likes to drool on it) and I put a couple scratches near the top fan. I plan on fixing this real soon.

One of my friends used my tools and also did this to his computer and netted a 10C drop in both his case and processor temps. Granted, he had horrible airflow previously.

I still have a little touch up to do, but I'm very please with the result. If anyone want more pics, let me know. I can put a picture of the bit I used too if you need it.
