if you have another laptop or can have access to one,
test the memory with memtest.
that's where i'd start.

was it running when it was dropped? If it wasn't it is very possible that the HD is fine, those laptop drives can take quite a bit when not running because the heads are locked away from the platters, keeping it from having a head crash. My old laptop once fell upside-down on its lid (an old crappy compaq too with an old crappy fujitsu HD). That was a few years ago, and the laptop still works fine (talked to the guy I sold it to not that long ago and he said it still works great).

Odds are, if the wireless doesn't work and the system is freezing that stuff got knocked loose. Is there any physical damage on the outside, like badly split plastic, crushed corners....?

Have you ever opened a laptop before? Might want to check out the manufacturer's website for guides on dissasembly. I have a feeling that the slot where the memory plugs in to the PCB is broken and when ever you move it, it freezes up and or you have a bad HDD.

If you said it was on, you probably toasted the hard drive. Some other things might have gone with it too. Bummer dude.
