Hi all,

I dropped my laptop and the LCD screen isn't responding. But the whole system is usable if I connect it to an external monitor. Can someone recommend me any quick fixes/tips before I spend 2k on a new LCD? Don't really wanna do that coz this is a P133 system {g}

Thanks

What is your laptop model ? Brand and type ...
if you test it with the external monitor you get video then you could eliminate your video card which is usually with laptop is on the same board with motherboard. then probably you just need converter cable or converter board to be repalced or got loose cable connection.
if your LCD also crack then try to find at E*bay the same brand and type with non working condition (bad motherboard) but good LCD and you can take some parts you need.

It's a Toshiba 220CDS. I'm hoping that the converter cable/board is loose so that I can replace it. I don't think the LCD is cracked becoz there is no visible crack on the screen. I've seen some tech pple from ASUS actually prying open an ASUS notebook to change the converter for the LCD. How difficult is it to get the parts?

I can get you parts, though they are not cheap. Solutions? Hopefully, one or more cables could be loose. You will have to remove the kybd and check those cables. You will also have to remove the mask (face) from the LCD and then remove the LCD to check those cables. Next solution, your FL tube broke in the fall. You will have to replace that, which may not be real easy depending on the LCD type. Other than that, anything could be at fault, LCD itself, FL inverter, cables, system board, etc..

Thank you for the offer. I've actually checked the price for a new LCD. It's a staggering USD$500 for a new LCD (which is DSTN BTW). Couldn't be stuffed to actually get it replaced. I'll try to dismantle the keyboard to look at the cables. But I dont' have any experience dismantling a notebook. Do you have any advice/tips on that?

Thanks.
