Dropped Hard Drive

So pissed at myself right now. Had some wires running to my external enclosure and I happened to trip over them in the dark. The hard drive fell around 2 feet. Now, it won't spin up and just makes a noise whenever I try it. I removed it from the enclosure and tried to power it directly from the psu and sata cable.

I'm pretty much SOL no? Atleast if it spun I would've had some hope. This is actually a drive I got from an anandtech hot deal. 1.5TB 7200 rpm. Only $110. Goddamnit.

My data on there is not critical, it was a backup drive, but I still have my main one. It served as my repository for all my media though. Movies, music, + almost all my games, steam etc. Oh... it's gonna be such a pain to get back. :(

It didn't even fall that far. First and only time I've tripped on it and it had to be while it was running just as I needed to grab some small files off of it.

edit: omg, I just remembered game saves. *Sigh* well I guess I won't ever be finishing a bunch of games now.

Only a $110 lesson - don't worry, college students piss away exponentially more by skipping classes and not learning.

The hard drive head that is about the size of a . floating on a cushion of air generated by the platter spinning at 7200 times a minute suddenly being slammed into the platter has the effect of someone taking an knife to a cd .

If you want to try you could open the drive and see if the head servo is jammed, large arm attached to the head. It could just be stuck.

Well seeing as I currently have a 2 lb brick, I'l give it a shot. Any guides as to how to fix what you are referring to. Given that I have no clean room, even if it's fixed I'll probably have to only run it long enough to get the data off no?

The same thing happened to mine when my daughter pulled it down on accident.
Drive was dead except for a slight clicking noise.
It was a Seagate with the documented firmware problems, so they took it back.

Mine doesn't click, it just slightly beeps I would say as if there was a beeper inside the machine that makes a slight slight noise.

This is pretty much what it sounds like. I haven't noticed high and low beeps like in the video. Just one beep.
