Dropped Gateway Solo 9500

To make a long story short, we have 2 teenagers and no-one in the house knows how the laptop got dropped. The screen is not cracked, however the casing holding the screen is cracked a little in the corner next to the hinge. When I power the unit on I do see the Gateway Screen that shows up in the beginning, but after that disappears and it begins to load, the screen flickers some and then the unit powers off. I can select to enter the bios and it does but within 5 seconds the screen starts to flicker and then the unit powers off. I have never taken apart a laptop before but figure I could start with this in the state it is in. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be the issue so I have a place to start? Another option is I could sell it off for parts but figure I might as well give a shot at fixing it first.

Thanks,

CEV

I'd say that you have a power issue or a motherboard issue. Either one leaves you with little or no options. Best thing to do would be to take it apart, assess the damage, then look online for replacement parts.
