Dropped camera bag in airport, now zooming element in lens is loose and wobbly

Over the holiday season, I managed to drop the bag with my D90 and kit 18-105mm lens roughly 4 feet onto a hard tile floor. As soon as I had a chance, I inspected everything and it looked to be okay. That was until a couple days ago I actually took out my camera for some pictures and I noticed the zooming element on the lens is loose and wobbly.

When zoomed out completely, it's no longer flush with the lens body, it sits about 1mm out. Zoomed out all the way, it wobbles 1/4" in every direction. Is something like this reparable? I was planning on getting the 16-85mm lens this summer to replace it regardless, so I'm not exactly crushed if it is beyond repair.

Depending on what broke on the inside it isn't too hard of a fix

Might be best to send it in though and let Nikon do it

it's gonna have to go to Nikon and it's probably worht the fix. then you can sell it in the summer.

Good to know, I'll be contacting Nikon repair.

Does anyone have any personal experience with them? Are they quick to repair and turnaround?

I'm also wondering whereabouts repairs might cost.

I had to send a lens in to Canon for repair - a 50mm f/1.4 that I dropped on the floor. It would no longer autofocus. Nominal cost is about $125. Got it back before the charges were finalized on my credit card.

I actually dropped my camera bag in the airport last year...the autofocus motor broke.
