Drop shipping -> Buy directly from the supplier instead?

I use a drop-shipper as one of my golf component sources. MUCH cheaper than the top level supplier whose product he drop ships.

If you happen to know exactly who the supplier is, and their price is better, go ahead. Many times though, that info is kept under wraps, and the price isn't anything spectacular to prevent such events from happening.

It's right here in the wiki article you linked: "As in all retail businesses, the retailers make their profit on the difference between the wholesale and retail price." Most manufacturers will not sell their products at wholesale prices to end consumers, only licensed resellers operating a retail business. Any reseller offering "wholesale pricing" to the general public is usually lying, since they have to be making a profit somewhere.

Drop shipping can save money because the product only has to be shipped once, directly from the manufacturer to the consumer, and the reseller saves on warehouse costs and such. Theoretically they can then pass some of those savings on the the consumer, but you are basically paying a retailer for a product they don't have in stock, so keep that in mind.

I did drop shipping before... I got a better price by obligating myself to purchase a minimum amount from the whole-seller.
