Drop In Replacement for Stock Q6600 Cooler

Greetings!

Does anyone happen to know of a good drop in replacement for a stock Q6600 HSF? This is a machine at work (I have permission) that I've clocked up and I don't like the temps. It idles in the low fifties and hits the sixties without much push.

I'm not interested in removing the motherboard to put in a back plate, but was hoping for something that could use the same basic mechanism that the stock cooler uses. Any ideas and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

You know... I looked at that just this morning, but thought that the bracket in one of the photos was a rear mounting bracket. Now that I read further about the product, it certainly DOES seem like a drop in replacement and I certainly DO feel like an idiot!

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll wait a bit to see if others want to chime in, but the AF7 is a great cooler and is on sale for $10 off right now with free shipping... so I probably won't wait too long.

You better open up your system to see does it use push pin or screw. Because I work on one of my friend's dell 775 system before and the it doesn't use the push pin but the screw in heatsink and fan.

Scythe Ninja Rev B is a drop-in replacement for the stock LGA775 cooler. It uses push pins and no backing plate is needed. Cooling performance is very good, and you can run two 120mm fans in push-pull.

I have the AC Freezer pro.....it did come with push pins, but i opted for backing plate....@ 3Ghz since May 2008, it hasnt gone above 49c under load

I had a very good experience using the Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME on my Q6600 when overclocking it. Kept temperature at below 65C in prime95. Ran like that for over a year. It Gives very good temperatures when you run it on default. Not to mention it is a very silent cooler.

They let you overclock a work computer? Must be a pretty small company. Hope that they don't care if your output is screwed up.

Best cooler I've used that didn't require a backplate is the Cooler Master Hyper TX3, but performance wise I'm not sure how it compares to the Artic Freezer 7.

My old computer that is now my server has a thermalright ultra 120 (non extreme) that fits inside its thermaltake soprano mid tower case W/ the side case fan installed. It has been a long time since I installed the cooler, overclocked and closely monitored temps with it but I do remember it significantly reduced my load temps and I was easily able to achieve 4.2ghz overclocks with little effort with low load temps.

The bonus is it was dirt cheap when I bought it compared to other solutions.

*edit* on that note it looks like the only way to find this cooler now is used. I searched a few sites and its either non existent or deactivated

Been with this company for almost 25 years and have had machines overclocked for extreme performance machines for almost 20 of those years. They get thoroughly tested and we do our due diligence. It's not as necessary as it once was, but in years gone by it gave us a competitive edge over others in the industry I'm in.

The government lists us as a small company, but at about 35 million in annual sales, we're not exactly tiny either.

What kind of case is it in? Just wondering if it has enough airflow. Without good airflow that processor is still going to heat up even with a good heatsink.
