Dell has got this SWEET 22" monitor for $613 shipped. I'm currently using a 5 year old Dell 17"... and need to upgrade. I think this might be it.

Any thoughts?

for that money, you might be able to get anywhere from a really decent 18'' LCD or a mediocre 21'' LCD,

ive seen that monitor set up at a local computer shop.. it was probably the nicest display in the store, and they had a lot of high end stuff.

i like LCDs but if you like CRT this would be the way to do it.

i have the mitsubishi 900u, which is their 19 inch crt.

pros: superb image quality! i have a 15" dell uxga lcd, and the mitsubishi's image quality blows it away.
also, it looks better than a lot of the other crt's out there.

cons: the monitor is huge and VERY HEAVY! it's very hard to move around and find a desk to accomodate it. also, my desk is starting to bend in the middle because the monitor is so heavy! did i mention it's heavy (and i have the 19" one!!)?

I've got an NEC/Mitsubishi 22" CRT VGA Monitor Model FE2111SB-BK Black from Newegg.com for $541.
They also have a cheaper white version for $525.00.

We have a Mitsubishi 2060u at work and it's same Monitor like my own listed above.

I love the buttons that quickly adjusts the brightness for DVD, Games and Desktop.

When I look at a the 19" A90F Viewsonic and then back to the NEC at 1282X 100Hz I laugh.
My eyes don't hurt when playing for long hours anymore. These CRT's are a lot like
SONY tubes.

Good Color, Very Shape.. The only Nag is that fonts get a little blurry near the side, but nothing that bad because all 22" monitors
have this problem.

I'd not buy a LCD at this point. LCD's have gotten better over this last year I'll admit.
But they still have ghosting problems and CRAZY Dead Pixel Return Rates that I'd careless for at those high prices.

Using it exclusively for gaming is a good reason TO get it! I just got the nec fe2111sb 22" monitor and love it. It's a step down from the 2070sb but uses the same diamondtron tube with superbright. Playing games with level one superbright is great. I'd say get the 2070sb if you are going to use resolutions over 1600x1200 as it is a professional monitor. I don't go that high so I saved a couple hundred bucks Canadian and went with the fe2111sb from Dell. If you do order a superbright sb model and it survives delivery - the ups guy rammed my monitor into the side of my house - you won't regret it.

If you really want the monitor then buy it. It's good for
games and pro desktop settings and is a fair price.

Heck yes, buy it. I'd love to have a 22 inch monitor! I have the Dell M991(i think) monitor and really like it. I have a bee in my bonet about the trinitron monitors, but that's another story.

"While LCD flat-panel displays have been drastically reducing in price, we still don't feel these are to the point where gaming performance can compete with CRT monitors. Some models are getting mighty close, but even slight ghosting can put off the hardcore gamer. To get close to the same type of performance found in a 19" CRT monitor, you would need to spend about twice as much on an LCD monitor, and perhaps take some lumps on the LCD screen size or quality end." ~ Ryan "Speedy" Wissman.

If you ever get an LCD make sure it's DVI and that your card has a DVI port.

yes, they are.
Only in your imagination. Did you buy an LCD recently? ;)

There's more to the equation than pixel response rate. DVI interface limitations on refresh rates, inability to reproduce 32-bit color, inability to display true black, fixed resolutions and reliability continue to place even the best LCDs in the "good but not great for gaming" category.

In 1-3 years we'll have all LCDs I'm sure and they'll knock our socks off. But you're deluding yourself if you believe that time is now.
