you dont get it do you

MIKE

dont get what?

making an assumption here, you mean i dont get that they are all of the superior high end hifi status items? if that the case, yes, i do, have been into hifi for a long time now, both what i can and cannot afford. But the Sony amp in there was Sonys top end home cinema amp, which Denons new home cinema amp completely blows out of the water.

If my assumption is wrong, please tell me what i dont get?

nah im drooling more over the highend old stuff.

that Marantz pm94 is a class a amp which can switch to class b.

class a is supposedly the god of classes in terms of output quality but its inherent lack of output is prevelant throughout its efficiency is extremely low.

now thats what i call a H/T amp.

MIKE

ok, not sure if the 5805 is the same thing, in England Denons top avail amp is labelled AVC-A1XV.......

checked the backplate photos, a few variations......but they might mainly be due to power supply being different reasons.

I like valve amps, but ones worth having are way beyond my budget at the moment...(and probably for a long time.....lol)

Sometime next year i'm gonna get a (non-valve sadly)stereo hifi setup, this last year or so i was building up my home cinema setup....finally finished it (except for a projector, thats happening in the summer)

Musical Fidelity and Cyrus are where im looking, prolly preamp and twin monoblocs, plus a CD player, MF's X-Ray machine is one of the best available in its price atm, given it uses techonology from their Nu-Vista and Tri-Vista ranges.....

should cost aroudn £4,000 in total, possibly £5,000 depending on speakers....
(approx US$7,000 to $9,000)

It goes for $4800

Insane!

Koing

not all that insane, if you want you can have 5.1 in one room, stereo in a 2nd room, stereo in a 3rd room, and mono in a 4th room, all different sources. Or 7.1 in one room, stereo in a 2nd room, mono in a 3rd. Or 5.1 in two rooms. Or 10.1 in one room (HUZZAHHH!!!...heh)

to be honest, that aint bad price for a multiroom capable amp (as opposed to just bi-room which my current 3803 does.....oh how i wished i'd waited 4 more months, i could have got the 3805 which has Denon-Link to go with my new 3910 DVD player...DOH)

I would be surprised if most people could hear the difference in a tube amp vs. a quality solid state reciever or amp. You would be surprised on how much $800 and higher solid state receivers have came along when compared to a $9k tube amp.

Your speakers make the biggest impact bar none on the sound of your audio system. Even room accoustics can make more of a bigger impact.

I have actually took a pair of high end book self speakers ($2700) and hooked up to various solid state amps as well as a couple of Macintosh amps. Believe me there was very little or no change in audio performance.

The point is if I even had $25k to spend on an audio system, 85% would be on speakers 15% on the amp.

My brother used to be into tube amps and I tried out a few of the ones he's had over the years. I think they definitely do sound different, but not in a way that I like personally.

Quick question but do you guys know any home theater amps that are 2-ohm stable and able to supply 900+ watts at 3 ohms? I've got a JL Audio 13W7 that I'm planning to use for home use. It will be in a 3 ohm configuration and handles 1000 watts continuous / 2000 watts max. I don't want to spend more than $2K if possible. I've looked at the Crown K2 and it looks like it'll do what I need but it has 2 channels...I'd prefer a monoblock if possible.
