DroidX: Google maps not at all accurate

NetWareHead

THAT guy
I have a DroidX on Verizon 3G network and for some reason Google Maps is not accurate at all. I'm talking about a circle depicting my location with an accuracy of 800-5000 meters. I can never use the phone to navigate or use google maps as it is intended since I can never get an accurate fix on my location.

I have "google location services", "standalone GPS services" and " VZW location services" all active as well as the GPS satellite active. The phone software and google maps are updated to the latest versions.

Sometimes when I am near a hot spot, wi-fi connects and I can get a good accurate location, but again, not always.

Other people with verizon android phones using the phone right next to me all have no problems with google maps and show great accuracy (3 meters).

Any ideas what could be wrong? I ditched a Blackberry Storm for a DroidX and even the BB could provide me with accurate google map locations. Thanks...

Sounds like the phone. Never heard of an issue with the DX. Mine works perfectly. Saved my ass last week.

Go outside to an empty field(no buildings around that can block the sky), download GPStest, and hold it in your hand.

How many satellites does it connect too?

Get it replaced. I have the incredible 2, and it works great, helped us get to the apple storevtoday to get sister's iPhone activation problems sorted.

I tried GPS test and I could not connect to any satelites. Sounds like we have a culprit here. Thanks for all the help guys. I'll see what Verizon has to say now.

Judging by the graphic in the help section, satellites are supposed to be represented by a series of different colored dots and I don't see any of that.

Assuming that you're not in an underground bunker you should never not be able to see any satellites. You should at least see some even if you can not get a lock.

Sounds like you've got a lemon, looks like you'll have to get them to replace it.

GPStest is reporting the GPS as on is it?

Yep I've tried GPS Test in several locations and I never saw any satellites. Yep GPS was on as indicated by the app and the phone GPS on/off toggle

I'm on my second X and about to take that in for a 3rd because my GPS lock-on rate is spotty at best. When it locks on, it's great, but often it just never locks on. Very frustrating.

Verizon, or at least the associate I got, was very good and it took all of 5 minutes arranging my replacement. No hassle at all. When my brother went to replace his, the associate wanted to argue a lot before we just berated him down the path of device replacement.

Company phone? Take it to your IT department and exchange it or have them fix it.
