Maybe the Atrix won't be so useless. ;)

edit:

<nenolod> i think the bootloader signature verification is still worth looking into, even if my guess of what was going on was false
<nenolod> because that made motorola jump in a way i have never seen them jump before
<jzmax22> well, this is a buzz kill
<MimeNarrator> nenolod: it's more than just a "guess" no?
<nenolod> MimeNarrator: an educated guess, but it was a guess, and it was an incorrect guess.

Kabaldan, one of the lead developers who works on CM6 and CM7 for the Milestone doesn't think this is really legit.

Koush doesn't believe it either:

So we'll still have to see. This is nice if it's real but we shouldn't get our hopes up. Just like when the DroidX came out everyone here posted thread after thread about a root, then a recovery, and acting as if the bootloader would be cracked the next day.

On Milestone Modding people said that this isn't the first time nenolod's pulled a stunt like this....

A lot of the Milestone guys there feel its a fake.

I'm crossing my fingers, but at the same time I'll also be ok if this is all a hoax.

I hope this isn't a hoax and Motorola gets rid of these encrypted bootloaders. The Droid 1 is still a good phone because of the moddability.

Unfortunatly, locked/encrypted bootloaders are here to stay. HTC started doing it with the Thunderbolt (locked, not encrypted), and I think that carriers are going to require it from manufacturers from here on out. For me, this is the end of Android. If I'm gonna have to have a locked phone, I'd rather have iOS.

Sigh. The freedom of Android/Droid 1 is what I like. If I wanted a closed system that I can't really do anything with, I'd just get a damn iPhone. Especially since it's on Verizon now.

You still get more freedom from Android. Unlocked bootloader just means custom kernels and stuff.

This alone doesn't make Android open. The fact that you can reprogram buttons and not get slapped in the face is decently open. Google is still a closed system in some senses, but it's far more lax than Apple is. Furthermore, with all the Milestone development that I've been doing the bigger issue is NOT the custom kernel. Custom kernels would be nice for power savings, speed optimizations, but if anything the bigger challenge is dealing with Motorola's proprietary radio drivers. These things are hte problem because while we can use an older kernel on Froyo and even on Gingerbread, most of our problems after booting are having 3G or wifi or whatever radio issues. For the longest time our Gingerbread build had no signal.

But you're right. This is definitely a point of suckage, especially about Motorola.

I have to keep this in mind when the iPhone 5 comes out. The Samsung Galaxy S II is delayed so devs will only have like a 1 month head start. Lets see what they can crank out by the time the iPhone hits.

[21:16] <switchgott> Can we hack it with nenolod methode?
[21:16] <nenolod> no
[21:16] <drsouly> there is no nenolod method .. i think ...
[21:16] <drsouly> it isn't working for any device
[21:16] <nenolod> correct

20:42:18 < birdman> can i see the c&d?
20:42:58 < nenolod> birdman: it is just a digitally signed email from motorola asking me to remove some tweets and some other files
20:43:20 < birdman> take a screenshot of it unsigned then xD
20:43:47 < nenolod> birdman: i'll think about it
