Foolishly downloaded a pre-release of Froyo off of rom manager a while back that I didn't realize was the carrier's rom. An auto-update broke root and I've been trying for weeks to re-root it.

Oddly, RSD doesn't even detect the phone and all of the one press roots say that the phone's already rooted. I've read tons of forum posts but have not found a solution that works.

Any leads?

Thanks!

I lost root when I installed a ROM a few months ago. I RSD'd back to 2.0 (or 2.01?) and started over which solved my problem. I think you're gonna have to figure out whats wrong with RSD lite.

Can't you D/L and copy the update.zip (Use the one Drizzle said above - 2.01), to your SD card, wipe your data and partitions, etc., and just use ROM manager with Clockwork recovery?

Good luck,

Bob

If he doesn't have root then he can't use clockwork recovery.

Just to clarify; you are using the original Droid, correct?

Yep, original droid.
Tried the suggestions above and in the forum, this is what I'm getting:
The phone is basically useless now, but it's my fault not yours :) I don't get a carrier signal the phone is locked at the security code entry screen and when I enter my pw pattern I get system crash after system crash

1. RSD works until reboot - phone rebooted but RSD didn't pick up the reboot and asked me to manually reboot. I

2. Phone doesn't mount on USB so I used recovery mode's mount option, which worked. Copied over the update.zip linked and everything seems to be going smoothly - cleared cache/user data/etc. On reboot I get back to the lock screen, enter password then crash after crash and no bars.

Since I erased user data I can't even open rom manager and the sign up procedure doesn't work because no carrier signal.. Hmmmmm.

Don't give up yet! If you can get to recovery, you are fine.

What update.zip did you apply? Also, you might want to copy everything from your sd to your computer and only have the update.zip on your sd when you try to flash. When you are stuck like you are, you want to eliminate every possible hiccup.

Try this guide:

starting with "flashing the rooted 2.1 ROM".

Your phone isn't bricked...its just messed up. This is where you get to Pwn your phone and show it who's boss!
