i have to confess, the PM that has the phone is out of the office and i dont have the software loaded on my computer. i did send an email with a picture attachment in it, and was able to save it to the phone but am lost as to how to get it over to a computer. i dont have bluetooth available to test the beam, his laptop doesnt have bt on it so im focusing on doing it without it if possible. so far, the "share" options dont seem to have anything but online uploads, mms or bt options. am i missing something? im going to test with an actual file later, maybe its just like this due to it being a picture attachment.

well if it is saved to the SD card. Connect through USB to computer, mount sd card, copy/paste pic.

I don't know if I fully understand what you're trying to do. Assuming the goal is to transfer a file from the phone to the computer, is there a reason why you're not using a USB cable?

no, there would be a need for the cable since bt isnt available on his laptop. as i said, i dont have the software loaded on my computer yet, so i dont know what options are available. im assuming with the response so far there will be a way in the connection software to transfer saved files from the flash memory to the laptop then? the whole exercise is just to make sure my guys can actually accept emails with files other than pdf, word and excel files and send them to a laptop to use. like compiled program files, secondary files for the ladder logic programs we use and csv files for tagname dbs. my winmo phone does this in its sleep, the bb storm wont at all, so ive been trying to answer the question on whether the droid does without having one in-hand to test it for my self

ahh ok. There isn't any specific transfer software that is needed on the PC end. Well at least I haven't used any. Just plug in the phone and the Droid will prompt if you want to "Mount SD" and if you do windows will just recognize it as an external storage device and you can browse through it like any other drive. Add/delete/move folders/files from the computer to the SD card or from the phone to the computer.

There might even be a way to do it over WiFi but I've never tried. I wonder if there is an app for that hmm.

I think there is. I remember reading about it at one of the other forums. I keep forgetting to look for it. Though, I may have forgotten because it was a for pay app.

I haven't had any problems mounting the SD drive on any Windows PC so far.

ya, without the file manager app there is no way to save attachments to the sd card and put to laptop. tested and found that out this afternoon finally. mostly this was a test of my ignorance on the phone, since the guy keeps asking me to find out shit about it but wont give up the phone for me to figure it out. damn pencil jockeys.

Odd, I just saved a picture that was sent to my gmail account to my SD card. Haven't tried to transfer it to my computer yet though because I don't have my cable atm. If it is like my other files It should just let you drag them from the sd card to the laptop.

this is true. finally got it to test with. it will show up as a drive in windows, but on the droid side of things there is no way to "save as..." an attachment to get it to the SD card. that is what i am trying to accomplish.

heres the scenario: im out in the middle of the desert programming a PLC, theres no wifi or broadband and the firmware isnt up to date. the tech support sends the new firmware to email, i get it on my phone and save it. xfer it to laptop, update firmware, life moves on and smiles are had by all.

currently i am the only one in the company that can do this, since i have a winmo phone. the owner can, he only pays the tethering fee for his bb, no one else gets that option.

is there an app that lets you manage attachments and save them to the sd card?

Try Astro. I haven't tried saving attachments other than pictures, so I'm not sure that it'll do what you want it to do.

after a little searching there is an app called K9- mail that lets you save attachments to the SD card and a bunch of other useful email features. Has gotten good reviews from what I've read. I was trying to test it out for you but I can't get it work with my gmail account, not sure if it supports gmail of if I'm just doing something wrong.

I think it has to do with gmail being it's own app in android 2.0 and K9 is just replacing the other email program but not sure.
