Droid DNA being extremely slow in certain apps over 4G

Well, the title says it all. I recently had a predicament where my device wasn't receiving 4G. We came to the conclusion it was the SIM card.

My phone is pulling at least 9 MB/s usually, but when I load an app, 3 that come to mind are Facebook, Google Reader, and Google Now, it takes at least almost as long as 3G speeds to load anything... I just cleared the data on the Facebook app, tried to log in, and it took so long that it timed out and won't log in.

What the hell is going on with my phone? I got a replacement shipped to me for the previous issue. It seems as though whenever I load anything, there's always this..... extreme delay to get everything started. If I open up Google Chrome, the phone moves insanely fast browsing. I don't understand what is holding back the other apps from pulling in a good connection.

Can anyone tell me what is going on with my device? I'm getting frustrated as hell.

I just tried my replacement with Facebook, and it's still taking a good 1-3 minutes to even log in to the app. Then when it's logged in, it still takes about 2-4 minutes to refresh the damn feed. Could it be that this SIM card isn't provisioned properly causing major slow down in certain apps?

Please help. :(

i almost paid full price for this phone in the verizon store because it has top specs and is only $599 but when i tried it it was strangely slow despite having the fastest cpu. i think htc just makes janked-axe products

It just means you aren't supposed to use FB on your phone...

Kidding aside have you tried running the app over wifi? If so are you experiencing the same slowness? When I had my Gnex FB was never the fastest or most fluid app out there. It ususally took some time to load. This didn't really matter over 3g, 4g or wifi.

As for the other apps which ones? And can you test the same thing of running it over wifi?

I doubt it is your sim. Seems odd it would be a phone issue (I have seen odd things though). You could also try completely wiping the app from the phone, rebooting then reinstalling. Going further than that make a backup of it and try a factory reset. It's possible the app was corrupted or didn't pull everything in the download/install process.

Well, I've tried running it over my wifi and my friend's, and the app works perfectly normal. I tried running it on 4G at work, at my house, at my friend's, and the app just sits there and does absolutely nothing. I know FB has never been a good app on Android, but it was working perfectly fine before I had my SIM card problem.

I've tried Google Maps, and it will not load when I open it on 4G. I mean it completely fails to load the maps and grab my GPS location. It just sits at a blank screen with the top App menu bar and bottom, but there's absolutely nothing in the middle... However, on wifi, it loads almost instantly. It's like whenever certain things are trying to grab from my data connection, they're allowed through such as Play Music and Chrome.

The weirdest thing is if I load up SpeedTest, I'm pulling in at least 5 MB/s. If I load up Chrome, the pages load like they're supposed to (insanely fast on 4G). If I pull open Play Music, there's an initial buffering.... (which wasn't there before), and loads a song probably 30 seconds after I click play, but after I do that, the song is all almost completely loaded.

I had a replacement device and before I shipped it off, I tried my SIM card in there. I turned the phone on, skipped the wizard, and I downloaded FB from the Play Store. I also tried Maps. I tried to use both of them on 4G, but it experienced the same exact results which keeps leading me to think it's the SIM (again...).

check your data usage settings - is there a limit set? also is "Restrict background data" selected either universally, or for any app?

I checked all of those. Nothing is set to restrict data usage.

I'll take a video of what's going on and post it later today.

Facebook app is notoriously CPU hungry. I doubt that it is the internet speed that is slowing you down when using these apps - it's more likely the phone just hasnt got the power to deal this these apps. I have the same problem with facebook app. If you just go on facebook directly via your phone's internet browser you will find that the speed increases greatly.

? it's a quad core krait, same as the cpu in the nexus 4 and one of the fastest available right now.

I know your have replaced phones, but did you try a new SIM card? My wifes T-bolt had terrible issues holding 4G but a new SIM fixed it. Verizon will replace it for free in store.

Those suspiciously sound like IPV6 applications. Sometimes the handset manufacturer forces an IPV6 dns lookup first and upon timeout goes with an IPV4 lookup. This can create the delay you are looking at. Call tech support and ask to be escalated as it could be an issue with the V6DNS servers.

That doesn't sound right. I see no speed problems with the GS3 on vzw for any apps.

This seems like the only sensible explanation, though perhaps a new SIM could fix this too.

For what it's worth, I'm not having any speed issues on my DNA. But I don't have any suggestions for ya.
