That keyboard looks pretty damn good, but I'm conflicted on Moto's trend of using non-removable batteries now.

Also, WTF? Android 2.3.5? Should be ICS. I'm assume the Droid 4 is going to be a few months away at least, since the Droid 3 just came out.

imho the keyboard looks like crap in that picture. Can't tell how raised the buttons are, but if they're close to flat, it will be pretty much horrible to use spaced that close together.

I'm sure the non removable battery is to make the device as thin as possible. Its one of the methods Apple uses in almost all their devices to slim them down.

, That's like saying the Razr should be ICS also. Google hasn't released the final code yet afaik, so the only ones that have it are Samsung for the Nexus device. Regardless of the other stuff they put on their builds, device builds do take more than a few days to make. Since this device looks pretty complete, the software is likely in the final stages of testing.

Also considering how complete that looks, might be another bionic/razr deal, where the droid 4 actually comes out this year. Either way I've lost all interest in Moto, so while the device looks fine I'll pass.

Very true, it'd go faster if they used a stock Android build, but that's been discussed to death. The longer this phone takes to come to market, the more and more dated it'll be. If it arrives in a month, fine. If it arrives if 4 months, thats bad.

Funny seeing this bit of news, considering that only a few hours ago I finally - finally - got CM7 running on my original Droid (didn't have an XP machine then, kept running into errors with Win7 whenever I would try).

I'll need to send this link to my friend, proud owner of a Droid 3 who shall soon be a victim of buyer's remorse. :twisted:

mildly interested, as I'm a verizon user and really like having the qwerty keyboard in addition to touch screen. Not a ton of choices and might be trading in my droid 2 come Christmas time.

Well I needed Windows to get Clockwork Recovery working first, and for that I needed XP. CM7 itself did not.

thats strange i got it to work fine in win 7


anyway, the update schedgule moto is using does seem a bit insane, i like how android based phones are updated faster then most other platforms but 3 months is insane

CWR doesn't require XP, Windows, or even a PC. 1) Root phone, 2)Install Rom Manager, 3) Tap Flash Clockwork Recovery, 4)Reboot to backup, 5&6) Download and Flash CM7.

Yeah I realize that now, I was doing it according to the wiki page which didn't say anything about a phone only method until the very bottom of the page.

Regardless, it really has given my phone a breath of fresh air... for all of 2 weeks before I get the Nexus. :awe:

As a high end phone, yes. Doesn't mean they can't sell a Droid 4 as a 'mainstream' device. But yeah, an OMAP4430 can feel the pinch now when paired against SoCs with faster GPUs. Nevermind next summer.

Still, all speculation, as there's not even a phone announcement.

Only thing that would really annoy me if I bought a present-day Android is that fact that the capacitive/hardware buttons will be (assumedly) rendered useless once ICS is available for them. This is why I'm gonna be getting the Gnex when it launches on Verizon, thus marking my first entry in the world of Android. Au revoir iOS!
