Me likey so far. I'm always amused at the little gadgets and thingamaboppers the germans come up with. The V8 has pretty good power. I don't think I would have liked a 525 or 528, especially since the touring tips the scales at over 4000lbs curb weight.

I didn't know you could get the wagon with a v8 :Q

Yup 🙂 Not your average grocery getter

Now it's time to cut out some silencers to make that V8 sound like it should:
The sound of sex pt 1
The sound of sex pt 2

No no no, my friend. Straight pipes. BMW is good for making engines that dont need mufflers to sound good.

My engine sounds like the second coming of Christ, raining fire down upon the evil, when I have it WOT.

This is not my car, but the same engine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qju9iEFqp3Y

How's the interior noise at highway speeds? I got the car up on jackstands today to change the diff oil. Man there is a load of junk connected to the exhaust. Looks like it will get a visit from Mr sawzall and Mr TIG.

I also took off the wheels and balanced them. My heart sank when I saw my most hated words on them 'Hencho en China' I'll see if I can hunt down a real set of M pars. Since i'm going to tint the windows, i've also tossed around the idea of black wheels. Anyone seen pictures of E39's like that?

Loud when the top is up, it's quieter down.

Just a quick rant here, something that kind of annoys me. Not to hi-jack your thread but I see you doing it so maybe you can answer.

What's the point of using chassis codes when talking about a 5 series BMW? The year and the model aren't sufficient? If you're a real BMW fan boy you'll know that the E39 was built from 1995-2004. The rest of us would rather know what year your car was built rather than "weeeeell it was built somewhere within a 9 year span of time". That's like saying I bought a fox body mustang. All that tells anybody is you've got some form of Mustang from the late 70's to the late 80's. Thanks for narrowing it down. Anyway, beating around the bush, what year is it?

I'm just lazy, that's they way I remember cars that i'm in to. I don't remember production years. Gets confusing to me when you get close to the beginning/end of the run.

Anywho it's an 01'. I think I got it for a fair price. $10k with 111k miles. Just got to figure out what to do with that ZF tranny.

WTF? Why does it matter what year? Did you want to know how many miles it has too? More people know what an E39 is rather then the EXACT date span that model was produced.
