Driving through Water

Kevin

Diamond Member
Its been raining a lot here, and road flooding is common now. We're talking maybe 3-6 inches deep and sometimes unavoidable.

What is the best way to drive through one of these little oceans? Is it better to drive slow or just floor it just before you hit it?

pedal to the medal but then again it helps to have a good car with tc and etc that will keep you from losing control

Slow. You don't want to hydroplane and you REALLY don't want to go so fast that water ends up flooding the engine.

I don't see how anyone can advise to floor it -- a fast-moving car is less attached to the ground and is thus way more liable to hydroplane.

Today I floored it, most of the time I just slow down. It was really deep and I couldn't avoid it so I just floored it as I approached hopeing I wouldn't get stuck. The water comes out of the wheel wells like 6-8 feet in the air. I would've went on the otherside of the road but there is a cement median thats somewhat high up.

I know my alarm is messed up, the chirps are very low now...

Traction Control but I don't care what traction control you have if you hit water too fast you're going to hydroplane. That is unless traction control has jets in front and on the side of the car.

traction control.

What's really fun is driving scooters, motorcycles, and 3-wheelers thru 1 foot on standing water. Now thats entertainment (for me anyway, not for my parents/relatives..hehe).

yup, i agree. not to mention, you're just a f*cking idiot if you floor it... so what if you have TC, is it really worth risking losing control?

I think you have to be an idiot if you're driving a damn TrailBlazer and go 5mph over it. I thought the whole reason for SUVs were to drive over that sort of stuff...

no, suv's were never made to drive on water, which is exactly what will happen if you hit a large puddle too fast.

What you want to do is drive right in so if the water has undercut the road and become a river bed you get to be swept away and drown.

Six inches..whoa. If it's city property, tell them about it..that's a bit of a flood..drainage isn't great..heh

I would run a risk of hydrolocking my engine if I drove through 6" of water..that would really suck.

Hit * on your command pad to activate the raft under the SUV and the propeller in the back.

I've seen SUVs with propellers...

how much would it cost to add it to suv

Well, it wasn't a real propeller, more like an ornament on their tow...

You've been watching too many SUV commercials, where the SUV actually DOES that stuff, as opposed to 90% of the SUV-driving population. 😀

NYC won't do jack.

Also, its somewhat of a hilly are, so the water builds up where the road kind of falls and slopes up...
