Driving Test Comes to Crashing Halt

PORTAGE, Ind. - A young woman's goal of getting her driver's license crashed this week _ right into the license branch. The 20-year-old woman was pulling into a parking spot outside the license branch when she hit the accelerator instead of the brake, Assistant Fire Chief Mike Bucy said.

The car jumped a small curb and went into the building about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, tearing out a large glass window and damaging a door and low brick wall.

Neither the driver nor the examiner, who weren't identified, were injured. Bucy said a person in the building sustained a hip injury and was examined by emergency medical personnel but declined to be taken to the hospital.

The driver's car had damage to its hood and fenders.

Amazing Travel manager Susan Williams said she thought something had exploded next door.

"We jumped up and we went to the door and saw the car half in and half out of the license bureau," Williams said.

The building was closed for the remainder of the day, but reopened Wednesday.

The young driver, meanwhile, failed the test.

"I think it's fair to say the customer did not meet the required criteria," said Greg Cook, a Bureau of Motor Vehicles spokesman.

See... that's why at my DOL (Department of Licensing, lame WA name)... They make you park to the side of the building. That way, if you accidentally hit the accelerator, you go into a brick wall.

She's got a long way to go until she gets her license now.

Actually, you're wrong. Studies have concluded that females have a higher rate of overall accidents, but they're typically minor in terms of damage and loss of life. Males have a lower accident rate, but they normally involve more dangerous behavior, which is associated with more damage and higher fatality rate.

It''s a sign. Signs are everywhere. This one is a sign that she should never drive. :shocked:
Her daddy will pay for the damages, and unfortunately, she will come to another branch, next week, and pass the test.
Years later when she kills somebody, the ol, elastic memory will kick in, and folks will wonder, how in the hell did she get a license? Finally, the dead will be buried, and the lawsuits will begin.

Has ANYONE here ever driven a corvette? Or any other car where the gas and brake can be manipulated with one foot?

I'm not saying blame the car, but on some cars the pedals are so freaking close to each other, I can actually forsee this happening.

More like men just drive too fast. Women tend to hit parked cars and other stationary objects. My stepsister has been in 3-and-counting parking lot accidents. My friend's (he's Asian... here goes another stereotype ) mom and sister have 5 parking lot accidents between them, and his mom hit a brick wall to boot. Studies have linked testosterone with spatial ability, so it makes sense in a way.

No, not at all. If men do something, they don't do it half-assed. If they're going to crash a car, they're not just going to ding it up, almost total it, and hurt someone. That's leaving it half done. You wanna wreck the car so you can't even identify what brand it was, and go for no survivors at all.
