Lets say the speed limit is 35 and you go at 40-42, in your opinion, can a cop stop you? What are the chances of that happening? Just curious.

Have any of you been ticketed for going 5 MPH or less over the speed limit?

Technically yes I believe they can, but by and large they don't bother. I've talked to cops before and most say they give somewhere around a 7-10 mph cushion.

If you are exceeding the speed limit, a cop can pull you over. I know of people being pulled over for 1mph over.

I've been seeing cops going around 10MPH over the limit, according to my visual radar, but that must be accetable.

So basically, I'll try to stay at or below the limit. If I get strange looks or honks, oh well.

They CAN stop you, but most of the time they don't. It really just depends on the cop.

My rule of thumb is: Don't pass the cop. If I'm behind the cop, its all good.

LOL I drive extremely carefully when a cop is driving by. One time I believe I was going 40 in a 35 and a cop was right behind and I didn't even notice it. Once I slowed down, he turned around and pulled away. But yeah, cops are good people for the most part and as long as you're driving safely, then it is all good.

Anyone here also get strange looks when they drive a bit slower than the traffic?

I think it totally depends on the area/mentality of the cops. I think NY state troopers, especially in westchester, are very lenient. I got pulled over a couple weeks ago for doing 58 in a 40 and the cop just gave me a warning. Also, 70 is about the average on the taconic/sprain parkways in NY , even though the speed limit is 55. But, farther north in the catskills the small town cops will pull you over for anything if they want.

Generally I think cops are pretty good (unless they have a speed trap set up). Ive been pulled over and ticketed before, but I probably deserved it. As long as your not doing anything wreckless or endangering anyone I dont think they care about 10-15 mph over. I went screaming by a police car on my bike once on the highway (they were merging and I didnt see them until they were beside me), I jammed the brakes and thought for sure I was done, but she didnt do anything.

Tell me about it. I got a ticket in Catskill for 9 over. I went to court, and plead it down to parking on the pavement tho, so its all good.
