i've been thinking of going to a driving school, i'm 25 and i never took drivers ed in school, but i have seen enough bad movies and played enough racing sims to get the basic idea that one pedal is for moving and one is for stoping.

what i'm wondering is how long of a ordeal is this going to be, days, weeks, months?any advice on being prepared as well, other then fuzzy dice?

Are you referring to a racing/performance school? Or a school so you are educated to drive safely on the roads?

If you're over 25 you dont need driving school. Just have someone teach you how to drive, read up a little and go take the test. Some states force kids to take driving school before allowing them to take the test, but since yo'ure an adult it shouldn't matter for you.

1. Use common sense.
2. Learn to parallel park
3. Make right turns on red unless otherwise noted
4. ...
5. Profit!

I went to a driving school. It lasted about a week. I think it can bring your insurance down some also, although at age 26 it decreases also. Be sure to ask for Ms. Puff.

It takes some 20 or more hours of driving with and instructor. This you can make in one week or more.
Talk to someone from a driving school - asking is free :D

being in Florida there are so many to choose from here....I do my own driving schools though on the backroads (horse country)...

Nothing equals having your own car traveling near triple digits and spinning down a vacant two lane road with a 10' drop off into a canal on the one side.

First time I tried a full 100+ mph full brake test....I still dream about that.

:) I straightened it out though....

I really want to go to a pro one day, I am sure I can learn quite a few tricks.

if you live in a rural area, just ask your parents to take you to a very empty parking lot without poles and practice.

if you're in NYC like myself, you can get the cheapest driving lessons in chinatown... like $250 for 5 lessons (1.5 hrs each), plus car for the driving test.

i aced the thing in one try =]

basically to get a licence, you need a written test and the road test, in NY at least.

Where are you and maybe we can point you better. If you were in GA, TX, FL, I would send you to Audi Driving Experiece, which was born out of the racing school at Road Atlanta and run by the Panoz group. Two day school

Bertil Roos is very good as is the grand master, Bob Bondurant.

Advance handling will help alot. I am not aware of any schools that help break bad habits you may have developed. The AARP has classes for seniors to teach them how to handle slower reaction times. NOT recommended that, but they schools associated with that may have adult classes.

BTW, I hope to send my teen to the 2 day teen course.
