I was new to this area a while back, and saw that here in IL, at least two cars pull into the intersection when their arrow goes away, or it turns yellow. This allows two to sneak across even after the light is red in some cases. (If people wouldnt speed up when they saw yellow, perhaps those two cars could sneak over while it was still yellow). In any case, I found this bizzare, but heard that it was legal.
Fast forward a few years. On the final turn to get onto my road, there is an intersection with two lanes each way, and a third lane for left turning, with a separate arrow signal. There is a median painted striped orange farther back, which almost everyone blazes through to get to the left hand turn lane because this arrow turns green before the normal two lanes get a green. I saw this literally 50 + times in a few months, and decided it must be another weird law in Illinois (duh Im stupid
. So I did this once, and got pulled over, and told it was wrong...
Ok so I dont do that anymore.... but twice since then I have been up at the point where the median turns into the lane, and had people buzz by me, even though I had my turn signal on, and the front end of my car working over into the lane. One time this turn lane was full, and someone pulled up next to me, and tried to edge me out of the lane. Keep in mind this is with their full car in the striped off median area, and me in the right.
Anyway, this is a boring read, and Im sorry for subjecting you to it, but it happened again yestereday and pissed me off.
