Driving in D3 on highway

I have a 5sp automatic and use L1 fairly often- I live up a rather significant hill that can get a bit treacherous this time of year.

Yeah, but I meant to go *downhill*. I use the engine to slow down the pickup truck while going down the hill because the tires on it aren't the best and the breaks are rather weak. It's kind of like engine braking, but I don't even know if you can do that with an automatic, and I dont know how good that is on the transmission, engine, and engine mounts. Just something I do to try to help make sure the truck slows down properly. It's an old truck so it doesn't really matter to me if the damage is minimal. It's just a work truck, I just didn't know if it was a good idea or not.
