Driving games: Is it worth buying a wheel?

I've been buying a bunch of driving games because CS is starting to take its toll on my brain.

But is it worth to buy a wheel first. If so, which is your favorite?
I guess I'm looking for one that isn't too expensive. I run Win98SE since its just a gaming box.

It's all personal preference. I just got a Logitech "Driving Force" wheel for my PS2 (I havn't used it on the PC yet) for Gran Turismo 3. It doesn't make me any better at the game, but it's a total blast having it kick around while your on the Rally circuits.

The best wheel is the Logitech MOMO, but seeing as how it's $200, you might want to look elsewhere. You are safe with Microsoft or Logitech's standard feedback wheels (run for $70-$100).

Thanks.
Well I can get the Sidewinder wheel and peddles without the force feedback for cheap since I have a GiftCert and MIR.
Maybe I should just try that since I'm not sure I want to shell out bucks.
You think the force feedback is a feature I shouldn't overlook?

I bought a mad catz non FF wheel from the fs/t forum, I used it a little, but I really have no space for it on my desk, so I gave up on it. It just sits in my closet now.

I think if I had a place for it on the desk and more interest in driving games, I'd use it a lot more. It was quite fun in NFS : PU, even better in midtown madness, because it was like actually driving a car recklessly around town. I bought it cheap, mostly to see how I liked it (because I didn't want to dump a lot of money into a quality FF wheel and then hate it).

I have a logitech wheel with pedals and I love it. If you like driving games, you should really have a steering wheel. I got a cheap one from office depot.

imo, if you see a good deal on the wheel, you should definitely get one if you play racing game.. i picked up a logitec wingman wheel(non ff) when it's on sale.. i paid about 20 bux for it.. it works really well and it does make the racing game more fun and more enjoyable to play... once you played racing games with a wheel, you won't be going back to keyboard or joystick..

I love my Logitech Wingman Formula Force and couldn't imagine racing without it. Especially for games like NFS PU and Sports Car GT. Certain racing games don't work well with wheels, such as 1nsane, but if you will be racing a lot, definitely get a wheel. If you are not sure about FF, try one at a store(if you can find a store that demos one), but you could get a cheap non-FF wheel for now and if you really like it get a FF wheel at some other time.

I have a set of 3 Thrusmaster racing wheels and pedels. Got them for $10 a pop at CompMEXICO a few weeks back

A FF wheel and petals are a must if you like driving games. I have an old MS FF wheel and pedals and I love it. 🙂
