Hey guys I am thinking about getting one of these DRIVING SEAT
UPDATE: Ordered the chair, $199 shipped

I am going to set it up in the game room with a MAME cabinet, some other pins etc.

Here is what I would like to know ...

1. Which system to go with (ie who has the best driving games) XBOX 360, PS3, Computer??
UPDATE: Gonna go 360 for now since I have the 360, a wheel, and Forza 2 already

2. I would REALLY like to get the Logitech G25 wheel and shifter but as I read its only for PS3/PC is this true no 360 or adapter to make it work on the 360??

3. I would of course need to mount a TV in front for playing -- I would be about 5 feet back and am thinking a 32" might be about right ... thoughts.

4. Lastly what speaker setup would be best -- some sort of Logitech 5.1 system maybe??
UPDATE: Decided to go with the Pioneer HTS-G1 system. Found it for $129 + tax from Walmart.com ship to a local store

Thanks for your input in advance!!

EDIT -- 2/22/2008

So I sort of got this set up last night and it was awesome. Lots of things to tweak and do but this is gonna be fun.

Here is how it ended up for now:

Playseat Evolution
MS Wireless Wheel
XBOX 360 Pro (Falcon with HDMI)
Forza 2, PGR4, PGR3, DIRT, Nascar 08, NFS Most Wanted
Playseat Slider seat adapter (being shipped to me so not here yet)
Playseat MS Wheel adapter (being shipped to me so not here yet)
42" HP 1080p LCD
Logitech X-540 Speaker setup -- went with this over the Pioneer Setup I mentioned**BIG MISTAKE**
Buttkicker Gamer Edition

Things to do:

(1) Get a table for the LCD. It's on a box at the moment so I need to get it on its permanent spot

(2) Build a platform to put the seat on. Having it on the floor is too low to the ground so I am going to have to build a platform at least 12-16" tall to raise it up some.

(3) Switch out the Logitech x-540 speakers ... these are AWFUL!! I picked up the Pioneer setup at lunch today and those Logitechs are out of here!!

(4) Once the stand and platform are ready get all the cables routed, tied down and run correctly so they are not in the way.

(5) Tweak the Buttkicker -- some parts is was perfect, other parts not so good. Just need some fine tuning in this area and we should be good to go.

All in all this was great last night. It takes a lot of getting used to when driving (I did well in PGR4 but HORRIBLE in Forza 2). This was really a lot of fun and I look forward to playing some more this w/e if I can get the time.

Anyway I just thought I would update things here in case anyone was interested. I will try to get some pics of the awful makeshift setup I have at the moment and then once done I'll show you guys the final outcome.

EDIT 2/23/2008:

Pics are up (just a few) HERE

The PC seems to have the most in-depth sims but the consoles have the prettiest sims. A Google search turned up some results talking about third-party mods to make the G25 work in Forza 2, but without researching more I have no idea if they're worthwhile. Once GT5 comes out you'd probably be more interested in a PS3 just for the wheel support.

That said, I hope you get Forza 2 so you can join our Wednesday night races.

Chair is ordered $199 shipped!

Got a 360 a wheel and Forza 2 already. I'll probably just start out with the 360 setup and see what comes along later.

Now I just need a TV and a surround sound setup.

BTW it looks like the other driving games recommended are Burnout Revenge & PGR4 ... anything else I should nab??

Any "simple" driving games for my kids?? We used to have a Cruisin' World in the house (yes the big arcade ones) and they loved it so I would love to find something else for them to play that's pretty easy.

I am also wondering if sitting close to a 42" LCD would be too hard on the eyes or brain hmmmm.....

Thanks

I sit 8 feet away from my 56" DLP and I love it. If I were you, I'd go to a Best Buy/Circuit City with a tape measure and stand in front of each size. Just don't buy one from them... 😛

Well personally I enjoy driving on my FPJ setup (about an 119" diagonal screen 😀 but I basically never get to do that since the rest of the family uses it so much.

I may have to use the BB/CC "liberal" return policy to "try" a few sizes out on the setup once the chair arrives.

Greg

That looks sweet. Do you use the 1st-person view when you sit that close?

I'd probably think to just get the black version of the chair myself because I'm a sheep and society tells me that black is cool. 😛 But the white chair really matches the wheel, speakers, and I'll assume the 360 (since I can't find it in the pictures to see if you have an Elite) well. Hopefully you'll be able to join us on Wednesday.

Well I am using a temp XBOX right now but the permanent one will be a Pro version Falcon with HDMI.

Seat -- the ONLY reason I went with white is because it was $50 less. I retrospect with what I have in this the $50 would have been pretty minor but I was being cheap at the time. I am most likely going to just go out and get a seat cover for it because that white "pleather" seat will be black in no time. Surprisingly enough the seat is VERY comfortable. Last night I was in it for about an hour and half straight and felt pretty good.

View -- yeah I go 1st person all the way with the gauges showind and the rear view mirror at the top. It's pretty damn cool. I would probably prefer to sit just a little further back but we have space issues where this is already and that would cause even more trouble.

The new Pioneer speakers kick a$$ compared to the crappy Logitechs I got (again was trying to save a few $$). I also got some stands for the surrounds and set them up on those last night so they are now at ear level which also helps a lot.

Tomorrow's project (I hope) is to get the platform for the seat made and a new TV stand made. Gonna be simple 2x4 and plywood construction but be plenty sturdy. I'l probably stain it red mahogany like the woodwork is in the game room or just paint it all black.

If I can get my cat5 cable run before Wednesday I'll be there for sure.

Thanks

Greg

Totally take that sticker off the TV - but otherwise, looks sweet.

I will just haven't gotten to it yet. I wanted to be sure I was going to like the set first (I liked the price that was for sure!!). Seems like it should be just fine so I will probably do it this w/e.

Thanks!

Greg

Hi GCS. I have almost the same setup. MS wireless wheel, playseat evolution, 73" mitusbishi tv.

quick question. How do you get your pedals to stay on the medal grill at the bottom? Did you use twist ties or the velcro included with the chair?

I bought the plate to secure the wheel to the mounting bracket but, my pedals slip all over the place.

Thank you!

Methinks this would have been better served in a PM rather than resurrecting a thread that's three days short of being a year old...
