Drives in IDE Raid failing sooner when not in Raid?

I just got 2 IBM 60GXP 20GB Deskstars that I plan to put into ide raid on the KG7-Raid when it comes out. But do ide drives fail sooner if they are in raid compared to not being in raid? SCSI is better than IDE raid, but does putting drives in raid kill it sooner?
