this machine is the green beautiful green machine.area 51 np 15"model
pc79376a.
the video artifacts ,the video drivers for the fx 5500 nvida ,did not seem to help..
can't seem to find proper drivers.
Thanks GUYS

how old is it?
seems to be an alienware area 51 (pre dell purchase), most likely the m5500?
if your video is artifacting, the GPU may be dying or overheating

dell/alienware should have the drivers for your notebook...
it is not recommended to install drivers other than the one alienware provides (unless you know what you're doing)
http://support.alienware.com/Support_Pages/Restricted_Pages/driver_downloads.aspx

also i don't think they had an nvidia fx 5500 (only the 5700 and 5600)?
do you mean the m5500 which has the go 6600?
http://support.alienware.com/Suppor...nloads_processed.aspx?os=WXP&cat=&manu=&item=
if you search that page for 5500 it shows the m5500 with either ATI x1600, x700, or nVidia go 6600

also your notebook might have GPU switching with an intel IGP, so you might need an intel driver as well...
you should probably check your device manager or something

The 179 series drivers are the last drivers that support your card. but from your description its a dying card, almost never a driver issue.
