Drivers for the Kyro II (Reference or Hercules?)

I just got my Kyro II today and plan on installing it sometime tonight. I was just curious if anyone heard anything about the reference drivers off of the powervr site being better than Hercules drivers? I was thinking that maybe it's the same situation as the Nvidia cards, where everyone recommends downloading the reference drivers instead of the card maker's drivers.

Hercules do nothing more than change a few registry strings to say their name of card in the hardware profiles and change some images on the properties tabs - the actual code they use for the drivers will remain unchged from the reference drivers. The advantage with the reference drivers is that they are usually updated quicker - in fact PowerVR released a new set yesterday (version 1.00.07.0111).

How come people have been saying for quite a while that Nvidia reference drivers are better than the manufacturer's drivers? Don't companies like Creative Labs and Elsa just change a few strings for their Nvidia cards as well?
