The STB Nitro 3D must use Windows 2000's native support for S3 chipsets. Select the S3 Virge DX/GX driver.

Neither STB, nor S3/SonicBlue/DiamondMM provide drivers for this card anymore.

Unfortuantely that does not work. I think the drivers are for the PCI version and I am using the AGP version. Also, STB have added DVD decoding to the card (I don't think it is supported by the chipset) which may be confusing the driver installation. I also had problems a while ago when I tried to get linux working using this graphics card although it also supports the Virge GX.

The S3 chipset detection program does not work either. If I try to load the GX/DX drivers under windows 2000 it gets the error (10 i think) cannot start driver.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

(Glad I bothered buying a graphics card with life-time technical support! :))

If push comes to shove, put the card in the trash heap. Thats a REALLY old card and you can get a newer card (i740) for under $15 at Fry's.

OK. Exactly which STB Nitro do you have here? There are actually a number of model, and I have given the driver for the most common (but older) model.

Considering that STB have been gone for quite a long time, I doubt that they have added DVD acceleration to the card.

The BIOS says it is a STB Nitro DVD AGP. BIOS Version 1.80.

The documentation the system came with claims it is an STB MPACT! 4MB but i has been wrong about other things so I don't trust it.

As it is installed in windows 98, its drivers describe it as a "Display driver for MPACT"

Thanks for you help

The STB MPACT card is not supported under Windows 2000. Chromatic Research, which manufactured the chip is no longer around; it was bought by ATI. ATI does not provide support in any form.

There are drivers for Win9x, but none for Win2K.
