Drivers for Radeon 9500/9700, as good as Detonator?

My friend is considering buying a new video card and the price range he falls into is the Ti4200 / Radeon 9500 Pro price range. He is concerned because he keeps reading old newgroup posts about WarCraft 3 crashing with a Radeon, so he is leaning towards the Ti4200. But price / performance I know the Radeon 9500 Pro is much faster. Are the new Catalyst 3.0/3.1 drivers as stable as the Detonator drivers from Nvidia? Do they work correctly with WarCraft 3? Thanks for any help.

In the past year, ATI has made some HUGE strides with their drivers, and I think they're driver support is GREAT! It used to not be as good.

Bought a OEM(Saphire)Radeon 8500LE a couple of weeks ago.
After installing drivers had problems getting monitor refresh rate above 60.
Installed downloaded Catalyst driver and had the same problems.
Read there was a workaround somewhere but didn't want the hassle.
Returned it and bought a 4200.
Works great with the supplied drivers.
Strange thing is I never had any problems with my AIW Radeon PCI drivers.

Doh!

No problems. If you have used another ATI video cards in the same setup, just make sure the OS is clean (not containing any junk left over from the previous video card drivers, such as system files & registry settings).
