Drivers for P965-based mobo - download from Intel or the manufacturer?

It's been a long time since I used anything but NForce-based motherboards, where I just got the driver from NVidia.

I purchased a Gigabyte DS3; it's on the way. We all know that the driver CD that comes with the motherboard is completely outdated. Naturally, i want the latest drivers.

Would I be better off getting the from Intel's site or Gigabytes?

Thanks.

For my S3, same as DS3 without solid caps, I used the INF from Intel and the drivers off the gigaybte disk but did update my onboard sound at Realtek as realtek has had problems with their drivers and the newwest one has some fixs.

Hey Marlin1975! Haven't seen you in awhile. 🙂 Thanks for the reply.

I'm so out of the "driver loop" due to the nifty, easy NForce driver package.

So, I need two drivers for this board?

1. Intel chipset driver for northbridge, USB etc
2. Realtek sound chip driver

Well thats what worked for me. Also make sure you have the newwest Bios. The first Bios I had on my board did not like my SCSI setup. But now since then everything has been great.

You can use the INF's and drivers off the CD to get started as they are stable. But with the newness of the ICH8 and the problems with realtek I updated those are there are newwer versions.

Other then that I have had no real problems and my 805 clocks better then the Asus board I had before.

I'd use the drivers on the CD to get started. That's what I did. Then upgrade from there.

I just went through an issue where I tried to use the latest drivers from the website first, and it resulted in my keyboard/mouse not working. The utilities on the CD includes drivers for USB 2.0 support.

Just a precaution.

Using the latest drivers first is exactly what I was planning on doing...I've never had a problem doing that before with other motherboards. Hmm, I may have to rethink that.
