According to DVDRHelp.com the most popular DVD writer is the NEC 2500a. I'm considering getting it, but NewEgg only has OEM versions with no software.

Anyone know where I can get the official drivers for this drive?

I've looked at NEC's site and googled extensivly, but haven't come up with anything yet.

windows already contains the correct drivers for that device.
all you'll need is burning software.

It is one of the best drives for writing dvd and cd but it is not a very good reader(does not do well with scratched discs). If you care more about writing, this is the drive to get.

optical drives dont' need drivers.
oem usually ships with software for burning but not always.

NEC 2500A is a great budget drive. not the fastest but the write quality is awesome.

not all 8x burn at the same rate. some 8x burners burn faster than others. nothing to get worried about ... the differences are like 30 seconds and such.

Plus, with all the advancements, they will have something faster next week. :D ;)
