My Nforce3-A/3100 sempron combo is having PROBLEMS.

So i'm back to my old k7s5a pro.

I noticed that the IDE controller says 'SiS Pci IDE controller' dated 7/1/2001.

Is there an updated driver?

Or am i fine?

If you're using XP w/SP1 or later, the Microsoft provided driver should be very stable (which is vendor-specific and most likely written by SIS).

But, if you must have the latest SIS driver:

SIS IDE Driver v2.04a (11-18-2003) - Supports SIS 735/745

Also: SIS Download Center (for other SIS drivers)

Microsoft's driver is fine, the board does do UDMA mode 5 ... but only if the cable has been detected to be an 80-wire, as required for UDMA modes above 2.
