I am having an extraordinarily difficut time locating the drivers for a Gateway Solo 1400 laptop I'm servicing for someone. It regards 2 devices which Windows XP Device Manager is identifying with {! UnKnown Device}.
The two devices appear to be the dial-up modem & video adapter (although the latter seems to work okay regardless). The devices are VIA Technologies VT82C686 (modem) and S3 82C380 Twister (display adapter).
Whether I look for those specific devices or the Gateway Solo 1400 in general, I cannot find drivers for any of this anywhere. Well, a couple of places SEEMED to have them, but wanted to charge. When did this happen? Used to any device I needed the driver for, I could find it in 5 seconds, and just download it painlessly. But lately, whenever I need to find the driver for a device, it's nigh-near impossible.
What's going on here?
