This person wants me to work on their computer so I go and look at it. Half way through loading windows it just powers down. Can't even get to safe mode, so I end up just going to command prompt and grabbing her stuff off to zip and wiping the drive and reloading 98. Every thing comes up fine now except when I went to load drivers she says "Discs what discs" . So I have no drivers for sound modem or video, and windows didn't detect any of them except for the yellow "?". Upon looking at the cards there are no identifing marks of any kind.

Suggestions on how to identify this stuff?

Check to see if the parts have a FCC number, there is a site to cross reference the number to a manufacture.

http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/

FCC ID # Search
In order to promote efficient use of the radio spectrum the FCC has developed technical standards for devices that are capable of emiting radiofrequency energy when in use. Many of those products receive FCC identification numbers in accordance with the Commission Equipment Authorization rules prior to marketing.

Nearly every piece of computer equipment has a FCC ID number, usually on the circuit board. If you are unable to determine the manufacture of a card then the FCC database will be able to help.
