Hi all,

So I get this error a lot when I play most newer games. When I play half-life, everything is fine. But when I boot up Ghost Recon, Independence War 2, etc. this error tends to pop up pretty quick. It says that "cwcdwdm.sys" is the problem, which, upon searching, is a file used by my sound card (Hercules Game Theatre XP).

I uninstalled the drivers, and installed the latest release (3.02). Still the same thing. I uninstalled them again, and searched for all instances of "cwcwdm.sys" and deleted thme (though I didn't go into the registry), and reinstalled. Still a no go.

Can anyone offer any help? Know anything about this error?

Thanks for any offers of advice.

My system:

Athlon T-Bird 1.33ghz
512MB Crucial 2100 DDR RAM
Leadtek GeForce 3 w/ XP Drivers (forgot release version... 21.80?)
MSI K7 Master w latest VIA Motherboard Drivers
Hercules Game Threatre XP w/ 3.02 Drivers
Windows XP

Click that link to take you to AMD's support page, and look in the right menu to d/l the AMD Athlon/Duron registry patch for Win2k. Im pretty sure that this will work on XP since Win2k and XP handle memory in very similar fashion. I have to apply this registry patch in order to get my Win2k box stable. BTW, there is none to negligible performance loss by applying this.

But I could be wrong?

Ok... I'll try that. Thanks for the tip. And I'll hold you totally responsible if it messes up my box :|

;):)

Any other ideas?

I also get this bsod, but for me it seems to happen when I am downloading a file on IRC or another app that has a realtime chat interface + file transfer. I was just getting it when waiting for DarkSpace to update my client.

My system:

Athlon XP 1600+
Epox 8KHA+
512MB Crucial PC2100
SBLive Value
IBM 60GXP
Linksys 10/100 Ethernet

I suspect that my error is being cause by DMA somehow. There is a way to check what causes this screen, but when I tried, I just got the BSOD and had to restart in safemode. It's really annoying, and I had the same problem on my Abit KT7 while transferring files on MIRC as well.

When I was installing WinXP I got this error. I had to remove my SB Live card and it seemed to fix it.

I have a FIC PA-2013 using the VIA MVP3 chipset.
