1999 Mercury Cougar (Yes, I know, it's a POS). The driver window rolled down, but will not go back up. It makes a clicking sound trying to roll it up, but it does not move. It has happened before... it seems like it gets "stuck" on down, where if it is going down, it won't stop even if you let go.

What parts should I check into? Switch, motor?

If you hear it trying to run when you press UP, then the switch is probably ok.
Time to open up the door. Find the connector to the motor. It should only have 2 wires. When you connect 12VDC one way, it will move window down .. reverse the polarity and would go up. If motor does this ok, then check for proper voltage at motor connector from switch in both UP and DOWN modes. It may be just linkage needs some lube or bad motor. What happens a lot is the gear on the motor shaft gets loose and can't provide the torque the window needs.

If its making noise then the motor and switch are probable working.

Probable needs a track adjustment. Take door cover off and see if you see anything. If not try and help it up.
